BUYING SECONDHAND ITEMS THROUGH SUPERBUY.

A practical evidence system for controlling one-off resale purchases from the live listing through warehouse acceptance.

A secondhand listing changes the job of a shopping agent. With a new retail item, the buyer usually chooses a standard variation and checks whether the warehouse received the correct model, color and size. A resale listing may describe one unique unit with its own wear, missing accessories, repair history and seller promises. Once that unit is sold, there may be no identical replacement. The purchase decision therefore depends on preserving evidence before payment and testing the same evidence after arrival.

Superbuy currently treats secondhand purchasing differently in its fee structure. Mainstream platforms such as Taobao, Tmall, JD.com and 1688 qualify for standard purchasing without a service fee, while Xianyu, Paipai and Zhuanzhuan are listed with a flat CN¥20/DI secondhand purchasing fee. Kongfz and other secondhand platforms are listed at 10% of item value, with a CN¥10 minimum and CN¥20 maximum. The company notes that the difference reflects more complex communication and after-sales work. That is a signal to prepare a cleaner brief, not merely another fee to add at checkout.

Decide whether the listing is actually purchasable

Begin with availability. A secondhand page can remain visible after the seller has promised the item to another buyer, changed the price or bundled it with something else. Give the agent the current link and ask for confirmation of the exact unit, final seller price, included components and any domestic shipping charge. Do not build a cost plan from an old screenshot alone.

Write a one-sentence purchase condition. For example: buy only if the black 256 GB unit includes the original charger, has no screen crack and has never been repaired. Every condition must be observable or answerable. “Good condition” is not a purchase condition because two people can apply it differently. “No crack visible under a lit screen” is much clearer.

For a unique resale item, save the promise before you save the price. The listing text, seller answers and selected evidence should describe the same physical unit that later enters the warehouse.

Freeze a listing evidence pack before payment

Create a small evidence pack while the listing is live. Save the complete title, description, all condition photographs, selected specification, stated defects, included accessories, price and seller name. Record the capture date. If an image contains a serial label or a distinctive scratch, note it as an identity marker that can be compared with warehouse photos.

Do not crop away inconvenient details. A screenshot of the clean front panel is not enough if another listing image shows damage on the rear corner. Number the images and summarize what each one is meant to prove. This turns a folder of pictures into a verification checklist.

Separate seller statements from your assumptions. “Battery health 88%” is a statement that may be checked if the interface displays it. “Battery should last all day” is an assumption unless the seller provides a defined test. “Original” is not automatically proof of authenticity. Record what evidence supports the claim and decide how much uncertainty you are willing to accept.

Use the agent for precise questions

The agent can communicate a defined question more effectively than an open request to investigate everything. Ask questions that can change the purchase decision: Has the device been opened or repaired? Is the pictured accessory included? Does the zipper close fully? Are there odors, stains, missing buttons or writing inside the book? Is the displayed size the label size or a measured dimension?

Prioritize no more than five critical questions. Long messages full of optional preferences make the seller’s answer harder to audit. Put the deal-breaking conditions first and ask for a clear response before purchase. If the seller refuses to answer a necessary question, treat that refusal as information. The correct outcome may be not buying.

Keep the answer with the order record. A message that says “yes” has little value when it is separated from the question. Copy the complete question-and-answer pair into the evidence sheet and mark whether the answer is specific, partial or unavailable.

Budget the secondhand transaction correctly

The item price is only the first cost line. Add domestic shipping, the applicable secondhand purchasing service fee and any inspection evidence needed for acceptance. Superbuy’s published flat CN¥20/DI fee for Xianyu, Paipai and Zhuanzhuan should not be confused with the percentage rule listed for Kongfz and other secondhand sources. Confirm the source category shown on the order rather than applying one formula to every resale platform.

Then reserve a verification budget. Superbuy’s current value-added service table lists detailed photos at CN¥2 per piece, re-inspection at CN¥6/DI and detailed inspection at CN¥5.50 per item. These services solve different questions. A detailed photo captures one requested angle or detail. Re-inspection checks specified attributes such as style, quantity, color, size, model, damage and obvious defects and includes three inspection photos. Detailed inspection goes further into areas such as linings, zippers and pockets and looks for smaller stains, discoloration, scratches and snags.

The right comparison is not “pay for every service” versus “pay for none.” Compare the evidence cost with the value at risk. Spending CN¥4 for two decisive close-up photos can be rational on a costly unique item. Ordering several generic photos of a low-value product may add cost without changing the decision.

Match the inspection request to the product

For clothing, request label size, flat measurements, high-wear areas, closures, lining and the exact defect named by the seller. For shoes, check outsole wear, heel shape, interior labels, both sides of both shoes and whether the pair matches in size. For bags, inspect handles, corners, zipper tracks, lining and supplied straps. For books or collectibles, check edition identifiers, missing pages or parts, writing, bends and moisture marks.

Electronics require a narrower promise. Superbuy currently lists a power-on inspection for 3C products and appliances at CN¥12 per piece. The published scope checks indicator lights and basic power on/off and supplies one photograph of the powered state. That does not establish battery endurance, network compatibility, every port, storage capacity or long-term reliability. Buy it only when that limited test answers a real acceptance question.

A product video is currently listed at CN¥20 per piece and can help with movement, sound or a sequence that a still image cannot show. Write the sequence you need. “Take a video” may produce a slow rotation of the exterior; “show the hinge opening, closing and holding at three angles” creates evidence tied to a decision.

Make the warehouse comparison in two passes

First confirm identity. Compare model, color, distinctive marks, labels, accessories and any serial fragment that was visible in the original listing. The goal is to determine whether the received unit appears to be the advertised unit. Second, evaluate condition against the written acceptance rules. Do not let a correct model distract you from an undisclosed crack, and do not reject disclosed wear that you accepted before payment.

Use three outcomes: accept, request targeted evidence or open a domestic after-sales discussion. “Maybe” is not a fourth outcome. If evidence is missing, name the one observation that will resolve it and request that observation promptly. If the item conflicts with a deal-breaking seller statement, assemble the listing evidence, seller response and warehouse image into one short case.

Do not modify the item before the acceptance decision. Superbuy’s service table warns that brand-tag removal may make goods ineligible for return or exchange. The same practical principle applies to other irreversible changes: keep packaging, labels and included parts intact until you know you are keeping the unit.

Control time instead of collecting more proof

A perfect record is useless if the buyer misses the period in which domestic action is possible. Add three dates to the sheet: warehouse arrival, evidence-request date and final decision date. The final date should leave enough time for the agent to communicate and for any approved domestic return to be executed. Do not use the warehouse’s longer storage allowance as a substitute for seller-side urgency.

When a dispute is possible, write a compact discrepancy statement. Identify the promised condition, the received evidence and the requested resolution. “Item bad, please help” forces the agent to reconstruct the case. “Seller stated no heel damage; warehouse photos 2 and 4 show a split at the right heel; please ask whether return is available” gives the team a usable task.

Approve international shipping only after acceptance

Once a secondhand item is packed internationally, domestic correction becomes far less practical. Mark it “accepted” before including it in a parcel. Then check mailing restrictions and route compatibility just as you would for a new item. A used device may contain a battery; an older collectible may be fragile; a bag may have a bulky presentation box. Resale status does not remove physical shipping constraints.

Calculate landed cost with the accepted condition, not the advertised condition. Include product price, domestic freight, secondhand purchasing fee, selected evidence services, international allocation and expected tax exposure. If the item has an accepted defect, record it in the final inventory. That note helps distinguish pre-existing wear from transit damage after delivery.

A strong secondhand purchase is not built on optimism. It is built on a chain that can be audited: live listing, precise purchase conditions, seller answers, platform fee, warehouse identity check, condition evidence and a dated decision. Superbuy can connect domestic purchasing, warehouse inspection and international shipping, but the buyer must define what would make the unique item acceptable. Do that before payment, and a resale bargain becomes a controlled transaction rather than an expensive surprise.
